Thursday Thirteen: My Soundtrack

13 Songs On My Soundtrack

I loved this meme when Gina Ardito did it a couple weeks ago for her Thursday Thirteen. My only problem was deciding which music collection to use.

My laptop only has instrumental music: Opus 2. Waltz # 1 and Violin Concerto In F, RV 296 – 3. Allegro don’t sound that interesting for this. I could have used my iPod shuffle (not the one that went through the wash) but I wanted to be able to see the song titles and artists. I could have loaded up the netdrive’s collection, but there’s over 14,000 tracks on there and many of them are more DH’s music than mine. So, that left the collection on my desktop machine. Definitely more me, but also radically eclectic. Funny how none of the Arabia Belly Dancing music came up (don’t ask, I like stuff with lots of rhythm).

If your life were a movie, what would the soundtrack be?

Open your music library (iTunes, winamp, media player, iPod). Put it on shuffle. Press play. For every section, type the song that’s playing. Next section : press the next button. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool. Play it as it comes up.

Okay, so here goes…

1. Opening Credits: Walking On the Moon – The Police

Kinda bouncy, kinda fun. Works for me. “Giant steps are what you take / Walking on the moon / I hope my legs don’t break / Walking on the moon” Right. I need to remind my self to take Baby Steps.

2. Waking Up: Good Night and Go – Imogen Heap

Hey now! Why do I have a feeling that Amanda Marshall’s Sunday Morning After is going to be in here somewhere too? I so do not derserve this slander!

3. Falling in Love: Till I Don’t Know Who I Am – Rory McLeod

Ah, a boot stompin’, harmonica blowin’, rockin’ good time. Saw this Englishman live at a Music Festival in Kerrville, TX a long time ago. Amazing. Picked up a CD with the same name on it… whoo, big surprise! Not the same guy at all.

4. Breaking Up: Who’s To Blame – Ozomatli

Good question. Probably a moot question by now.

5. Life’s Okay: And She Was – The Talking Heads

I don’t know what it is about this song, but it’s one of my all-time favorites.

6. Mental Breakdown: The Cat Came Back – The Muppets

This song is a certain definition of mental breakdown. Especially after a weekend of camping with a bunch of 7-10 year olds who keep asking DH to play it just ONE more time!

7. Flashback: Predictably Unpredictable – Urban Species featuring Imogen Heap

I don’t think I’ve even listened to this song, but the title’s pretty accurate. Nothing’s for sure but a definite maybe.

8. Getting Back Together: Love Like A Rock (In a Stormy Sea) – Rory McLeod

Same harmonica player, not the other one I got by mistake. Huh. Maybe iTunes has a thing for him today.

9. Wedding: She Will Be Loved – Maroon 5

Sappy pop crap. It’s amazing that I can even stand to listen to this song any more. I liked it the first 10 times I heard it on the radio. The last 10 kabillionth, not so much.

10. Birth of Child: The Obvious Child – Paul Simon

Hmm… We can’t deny either of them. Since they’re 14 months apart, we get asked if they’re twins. Nope. Not even Irish ones.

11. Final Battle: Gimme Shelter – Rolling Stones

No Final Countdown? Interessting choice, iTunes. Doesn’t sound particularly good. Oh, if you missed the Clark Brother’s cover of this song on America’s Next Great Band or whatever, you missed some good music.

12. Death Scene: Ain’t No Sunshine – Bill Withers

Awww. *sniff* It’s nice to know I’d be missed.

13. Ending Credits: Que Hiciste – Jennifer Lopez

I’m surprised only two Latin songs came up. I guess it would be even more obscure a mix if I did it off the net drive’s catalog of songs.

  1. That is a very eclectic mix there! I almost went with music too (13 songs from Bar posts), but decided to save it for another TT. Loved the insight into what you listen to! Happy TT!

  2. Those are some great songs. I think I know all of them. (The Muppets songs are the best. I have such memories of The Muppets. C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me.)

There was a meme going around years ago about which star we would want to portray US in a movie about our life. I chose Jeanane Garafolo or Woody Allen.

    Don’t ask.

(Hey! How do you get Mr. Linky?)

  3. Very cool list…& all of the sudden, I have this overwhelming desire to listen to The Police.

Awesome soundtrack you’ve got here! Happy Thursday. 🙂

  4. Isn’t that a hoot? I still play it every once in a while–just to see what else comes up. Love your Muppets! And the Maroon 5 song…Forget Video: radio stations are killing the radio stars.

So glad you played, Kaige! (maybe that’s why you have an excellent blog. Tee-hee!)

  5. They’re not Irish twins? I think 14 months apart would qualify. Even if they are not Irish, it might be good to get the luck o’ the Irish!

  6. I gotta say – Talking Heads=Awesome!

    I love that song, too!

It’s funny, though, how these things work out, huh?

I liked your list – some interesting tracks.

    I dig the Muppets! Cool!

    Ciao!

  7. Thanks for stopping by my T-13 on Tennis Champs at Small Reflections and leaving the link back here so I could find your blog. Congratulations on the ‘E’ award! Your blog does look ‘excellent’ indeed. As for the music, you seem to have a diversified ‘mix’ …
    Hugs and blessings,

  8. Oh, I am such a music idiot. I I don’t know half of those songs. :/ But I do know some and they’re good! But I especially liked the explanations.

  9. And She Was has to be on a lot of lists! The muppets made me laugh. I was having flashbacks when I was subjected to the “play it again!” when my daughter was young.
