Thursday Thirteen: New Wheels

13 Reasons DH Needs A New Car

1. The fabric on the ceiling is coming loose and attacking anyone in the back seat.

2. The rear passenger side door won’t open. This means he can’t easily drop the kids off at school.

3. It’s older than DD. (Ok. It’s always been older than her, but she just started middle school. C’mon!)

4. Owning his own company now, he needs a better status symbol than a ’97 Saturn sedan, yes?

5. The insurance will be cheaper on a new car now that he’s over 35 and married.

6. DS wants him to get a Lamborghini or at least some kind of fancy sports car.

7. It’s paid off!

8. My van’s also paid off! It’s his turn, he’s actually past due.

9. The A/C’s dead… ok not such a big deal that we’re no longer in Texas, but still.

10. It doesn’t have a CD/MP3 player just a cassette player.

11. The second engine we put in it is still running, but doesn’t have the pick up and it always sounds like it’s in performance mode even if it’s not.

12. My keyfob doesn’t unlock it and I’m tired of setting off the car alarm trying to get into it if I have to drive it anywhere.

13. The electrical system is going. The other morning he couldn’t buy coffee because the power windows wouldn’t go down and he didn’t have time to walk into Starbucks instead of driving through the little Cappucino Cottage on the way to work.

  1. It sounds like he definitely needs a new car! Though I like the cassette player. You could make a tape for him, the way we used to when we were teenagers, with our favorite songs.

  2. His birthday is coming up soon, but we haven’t reached any conclusions on what to get. He was thinking something fuel efficient to balance out the horrible mileage on my van. I don’t think he has any real preferences though. I still say he needs something to go with his job title. *grin*

What? No, really, it’s not just for that rare occasion when we can go out to dinner without the kids and we don’t have to take the minivan. Honest!

  3. I agree, he needs a new car. he could have opened the door and ordered that coffee. If he was REALLY needing it, he would have thought of that, lol.
I’ve been there, couldn’t open my window because it freezes shut in Minnesota. Gotta think smart around here.

  4. The passenger side door on my old car didn’t open for a few years and it was quite a hassle. A new vehicle is definitely in order!

    Happy Thursday!

  5. That’s quite the list. It sounds like you have almost talked yourselves into a new car, haha. I drive a 1992 Ford Ranger 4×4. He has very close to 300,000 km on him and still runs very well. His doors both open very well. I had to replace the clutch this spring and he needs a new exhaust system. His paint is peeling and he has some rust. And still I love my truck. He is so dependable and a pure joy to drive. It boggles my mind that a ’97 is in such bad shape already. Wow.

  6. Okay, so your car is as bad as mine.

have no AC, the tape deck half ate a tape about three years ago and refuses to cough it up! The hood takes three to open, the tires deflate themselves at will. The seat is stuck in the “fully upright” wish you were dead position. and, now…

Imagine, being stuck on the top deck of a double-deck bridge (3lanes and in the middle) and the trans-axle light comes on, followed by the fuel warning, in sync with the power/engine light…all with their accompanying bells and warning screeches. Uh, did I mention that this was at the peak of Friday rush hour!

    Well, that was my morning!
